Creating Your First Survey
Get your first customer feedback survey up and running in just a few steps.
Step 1: Create a New Survey
- Log in to your Popsee dashboard
- Click the "Create your first Popsee" button (or "+ New Popsee" if you have existing surveys)
- Choose a template or select "Start from scratch"
- Give your survey a name and click "Create"
Tip: Templates come with pre-configured questions for common use cases like NPS, customer satisfaction, and exit surveys. They're a great starting point!
Step 2: Add Questions
Once your survey is created, you'll be taken to the survey editor. Use the Questions tab to build your survey.
Available Question Types
Let users select from predefined options. Supports single or multiple selection.
Open-ended response field for detailed feedback.
Net Promoter Score scale for measuring customer loyalty.
Simple binary choice for quick feedback.
Star rating or emoji satisfaction scale.
Agreement scale from "Strongly Disagree" to "Strongly Agree".
Tip: Keep surveys short (2-4 questions) for better completion rates. Each additional question decreases response rates.
Step 3: Configure Settings
Click the Settings tab to configure your survey options:
- Survey Name - The internal name for your reference
- Title - The headline visitors see on the widget
- Status - Draft, Active, Paused, or Archived
- Schedule - Set start and end dates (optional)
- Webhook URL - Send responses to your server in real-time
Step 4: Set Targeting Rules
The Targeting tab lets you control when and where your survey appears:
- URL Patterns - Show only on specific pages (supports wildcards)
- Time on Page - Wait before showing (e.g., 30 seconds)
- Scroll Depth - Show after scrolling a percentage of the page
- Exit Intent - Trigger when visitor moves to leave
Tip: Exit intent surveys work well for understanding why visitors are leaving. Time-based triggers help gather feedback from engaged users.
Step 5: Activate and Embed
- In the Settings tab, change the status from Draft to Active
- Go to the Embed tab
- Copy the script tag
- Paste it into your website (see Installation Guide)
Step 6: View Responses
As visitors complete your survey, responses appear in the Responses tab.
- Filter responses by status (completed vs partial)
- Filter by custom parameters (user ID, plan, etc.)
- Click a response to see all answers
- Export data for analysis
Best Practices
Keep it short
Aim for 2-4 questions. Longer surveys have lower completion rates.
Ask the right question first
Start with your most important question. Not everyone will complete the entire survey.
Use targeting wisely
Don't show surveys immediately on page load. Give visitors time to engage with your content first.
Test before launching
Preview your survey and test the flow before activating it for all visitors.
Pass custom parameters
Include user data like email or plan tier so you can segment responses later. See the Installation Guide for details.
